[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Saturaday was a good day for getting picture it was the only hot sunny day in a week of lots of rain 100mm+ on one day which is a lot for the UK.
Every thing seemed to out doing things. this male Common Damselfly (Enallagma cyathigerum) is on a smaal piece of reed from last year sticking out of the water 100mm, and to get the shot I had to crawl to the edge of the lake over very wet ground and lay down flat holding the camera over the water left hand round ander under the lens to surport it, the nuckles of my hand where touching the water so I could tell that the camera was still out of it.use the back sceen to adjust the picture composition etc.
As the name inplys it can be seen through most of the UK and in some of the northern most islands of scotland it is the only member of the dragonfly family to breed. they can be seen on the wing from early may though to end of september . there is 2 colour forms of the female a drab brown/olive one and another simular to the male in colour see this wheeled pair the eggs are layed with the pair in tadem he will fly with her to a suitable area of weed near the surface and land , she will insert the eggs in the stems of the pond weed. sometimes she will submerge her self , at this point he les go and she will carrry on laying eggs under water for some time, then climb back out this I have seen, the books say that if she has trouble getting back through the water surf her struggles should atract another male who will grab her and tandem style and pull her out and fly to some vegitation where he will atempt to mate if she still has any ripe eggs left other wise she will reject him ;0(((.
These eggs develope in 1year in the south of the country and as it gets cooler the further north you go can take 2-4 years.
They are not fussy about the sort of water as long as it's not moving too fast so small pond slow rivers and even cold Scottish Lochs.

Gran captura!.

I envy healthily the possibility that you must to portray these insects Robert.
Here I am in the heat of winter and is impossible at least to see them.
Great composition... the trunk leaving the water is very beautiful.
Pretty and natural colors, perfect DOF to emphasize the image of dragon fly.

Very nice composition and colour. The background may benefit from NeatImage filter. Well done.

Robert, Great shot with good focus toward the insect. Beautiful blues also.
Greetings, Jan

Good shot Robert
Nice colors , good composition and a good note.
Well done.

What a great capture. I have become quite infatuated with the Damsels this year as they are so colorful and so beautiful. Just look at the blue in this Damsel....WOW! Great job in approaching and positioning yourself and camera as you did, Robert! It's not easy to capture these guys on "film" as they are quite small. Your efforts were well worth it.

Really a great capture here Robbert,
and sharp and colourfull and a great composition, and a great note, very good job

What a creation, great to see the two "lines".
Sharpness and colours, as always, superb !!

One doesn't see a lot of creatures topside of the water with this color and you captured it beautifully. DOF and colors are excellent!

I am amzed by the different species I see here on TN. Dragonflies, Damselflies, Hawkers & Darters...? The compo is unique and I like the lines. The "bubblegum" blue color is a nice contrast to the the rest of the pic. Very detailed note. Thanx Robert.

You scared the poor thing stiff by crawling around on the bank "threathening" him with a camera, look, his hair literally stands on end ;-)))
Nice and sharp capture of this one, beautiful colours, we still get a few at our top pond, but they're outnumbered 100-1 by the emeralds.

Robert, I came straight to this one after seeing the one from Bente. I would say this is the exclamation mark ! on here graphic design. Lovely to see the detailes the way you caught it, designers stubble on the head, I notice. Very nice capture.
