Even on a dull overcast day theres colour to been seen along Ireland's coastline in Spring. Its not only flowers that add colour but the Lichens that eat into the rocks.

Lichens are among the most fascinating organisms on this planet. Their very structure is unique: a symbioses of two organisms -- a fungus and algae -- so complete that they behave and look like an entirely new being.

A lichen can literally eat stones, survive severe cold, and remain dormant for long periods without harm. Lichens rank among the least well known forms of life. Common names, when available, typically apply to the entire genus rather than to individual species.

This photo was taken on the North Antrim coast of N. Ireland.

Stephen, In the thumbnail I saw all the color & thought they would have to be the strangest Lichen I've ever seen! :-) You've chosen another great POV with this colorful FG leading into the sea. Great sharpness, detail & composition. I like it!

Fantastic composing shot Stephen,
Very good taking the flowers in the pof and the behind in the dof. Fantastic composition, very good lines and fine details, very good photo, I like it

I always like looking to your see landscapes, they are very lovely and I find them a very good contribution to this site.
You also put a beautiful colour to winter here.
Although we are far in the distance, and our geology is not the same, our atlantic coast is quite similar to this... Did you know we also have celtic roots, our regional instrument is the bagpipe and we are called the seventh celtic region? :D
I wish to post some shots soon to show you. Points tomorrow.

Nice shot Stephen,
Excellent colours for such a dull day.
great POV
Thanks for posting

Another great postcard from you. What interesting colours and angle for shooting. Excellent job, thanks for sharing.

Stephen, A beautiful landscape shot here. The detail and colors are excellent. The framing and composition are also great. You are right that even on a grey day, you can still get great photos. Nice Work!

Paysage très special avec toute ces couleurs. J'aime beaucoup. Félicitations !

I like the diagonal composition with a colourful bottom and almost B&W top part. It is very dynamic. Well done Stephen.

How pretty landscape! I would like to see that... I miss spring, I miss flowers on the meadow and I miss holidays!
Your photo is wonderful but it make me sad... :-( I'm cold!!!

Very nice, I think the composition is very strong, the colour in the foreground really sets this off. Another great landscape Stephen. Well done.

Stephen, another pleasant composition/landscape/seascape.

Beautiful colors, nice POV and DOF. The bottom full of flowers performs a nice contrast with the shades of the sea and the landscape.

".. far across the Western ocean I must wander" - Dubliners are spinning in the CD drive, so I'm just in the mood for a shot like this ;-))
Gorgeous colours on these flowers and lichen, and the brooding cliffs in the water make a nice backdrop for the colourful part of the photo.

Superb composition. The diagonal very strong. Its breaking the compo into two areas. One colourfull and full of life. And the other dark and desolate. "Beauty and the beast" Excellence... really! Love this.

Hi Stephen,
The Pink and Orange, as juxtapoed, works very well, the colours here are great and the scence is beautiful.
However, it appears to my eye that the focus is a bit soft
