Today I present a photograph from the Lake district. The place is Loughrigg (meaning ridge above the lake)and the photo was taken on a frosty morning.

I wanted to try something a little different here. The sun was just coming up (in the top right) and the grasses in the foreground look wonderful with the backlighting, I wanted to capture this against a conflict of warm autumn colours and cold frost in the background. And there is no sky in the shot which gives it a very different feeling. I like it, I hope you do too.

I've given up using points so feel free to comment, critique, leave points or don't leave points - it's completely up to you!

Hi, Paul. Excellent image with lovely color and composition, the f/ground works perfectly, great reflection. Good work. Regards, Roy.

it is a beautiful postcard scene . The reflection and the colors really impressed me.if you never pointed out the cold frost in your notes , I would miss it .
Jim

Preciosa imagen Paul. Los reflejos son espectaculares y este paisaje transmite una gran sensación de paz.
Bellos detalles, agradable punto de vista. Un trabajo bien hecho.
Muchos saludos, JL.

There is a nice lyrical feel to this photo Paul. I think you managed to capture what you wanted. I like the reflections in the dark water and the grasses against it. Very nice.

Thanks for sharing...and thanks for the notes on DOF/aperture on my last post.

Stunning composition. I really like the perspective. It is interesting to see the sun reflection off the grass in the foreground and the frost on the grass in the background. Nice colors and outstanding focus throughout!

Very interesting image, with differents deepths, the pines in the background, then the group of trees in the left, and the color's contrast between the grass and the frost to the right.
Personally, I think I would prefer the pic without all the grasses in the foreground, or at least few of it, just enough to break the absolute simetry crated by the reflexion.
Nice work,
JM

Hi Paul,

And that's what it is all about, THE LIGHT, you captured it nicely. The colors are beautiful and the tonal values are spot on. Excellent work.

Mike

Hello Paul!

Very nice place, very good photo. I like soft lines of hills and very different colours of trees. Reflection in water is also great. I thing without reeds on FG it would be even better.

Hi Paul,
I have heard and read so much about the Lake District (mainly as a student of English literature with Wordsworth as my favourite poet) but have not been able to visit it despite my short stay in England in 1995.
Your autumn landscape here is as beautiful as the poetry of my favourite poet.
I have yet to see a landscape as beautiful as this one on TN.
Regards.
Ram

Hello Paul,
This is Very well exposed, with excellent sharpness, detail, DOF and colors. Well composed, nice POV. Very well done!

Hi Paul,
The soft morning light really gave you something beautiful to work with, and you nailed it perfectly. The grasses on the bottom are perfectly positioned, creating a stong lead-in to the rest of the photo. the way the sun metled already part of the grass created a playfull view across the lake.
The reflection is ofcourse awesome.
TFS,
Niek

Not-standard composition and nevertheless excellent.
So rich in saturated colors that fit so well to each oter. Brilliant.
TFS.

once again you ihave caught that lovely light available in the autumn/winter in the norht of the country.... I'm glad you have left out the sky, too many people always include it as a matter of course and it is not always needed like here.

I relaly like the colder patch on the right, it really shows the winter is coming and explains the clarity in the light.

thanks

Emma

Hi Paul,
Very beautiful light for this picture. The left part with the automnal trees reflecting in the water is just wonderful. Lake District seems to be a beautiful region.
Best regards
Anne

Hi Paul,
You caught some beautiful light here. Beautiful subtle colors and tones across the entire scene. The frost on the grass, and the near perfect reflections in the water really make this one look great. The panoramic crop gives it the feeling of great depth.

Ricardo

Magnificent landscape Paul with great sense aesthetic and perfect technique.
I coincide partially with the appreciation of JoseMiguel about the grass in the front of the scene, but it is only an opinion, since they also offer an pleasant depth effect.
Intense colors and contrasts very regulated with the illumination and an excellent election of the framing they complete another beautiful presentation.
My best greetings... Ricardo

nicely done. I love the contrast of the light and dark and the cold and warm! great shot! TFS

Hi Paul
I have a confession to make: due to tha fact that i'm partially color blind, generally i rather "understand" colors instead of acually seeing them...it's hard to explain. It's something like this: if i see a leaf during spring or summer i can tell that it's green because i know it has to be green, but if i see the exact same color on a paper or t-shirt for example, i'm not sure what color it is...am i talking any sence here?
Anyway, my point was the following: it's your note that made me see the realy beauty of this shot! (a great example of why notes are that useful).
After reading it i "knew" what i was looking at and only then i could apprecuate the game of warm / cold colors, the true contrast between the FG grasses and the autumn colors.
Very well done...i like your ideas!
Cheers and TFS

unbelieveable light and colours. This is so vivid and glourious. The FG details work well and the crop is good. Beautiful scene

PT :)

Beautiful view. Nice to see all that frost. Well done on the composition and lighting.

Hello,
Beautiful shot!
I very much like the tight framing and the backlighted reeds in FG. They sort of "close" the scene and make the picture much more interesting than what you'd get from the usuall approach. When you look at it you have feeling that you're actually standing somewhere there by the water looking at this amazing view.
The frosted grass is a superb detail and surprisingly it gives the picture much more colour, if you know what I mean :-)
Overall, again a brilliant job!

PS. Is the full name of the lens you are using is Sigma 24-70 mm f/2.8 DG EX ASP MACRO? I know Sigma has other lens 24-70mm. It's cheaper but I guess worse.
Anyway, have a great time next weekend. I hope you will get your perfect BG this time! ;-)

Hello Paul,
Wow, this one is really fantastic. You've captured this frosty morning so well, the light and the colours are most impressive and
I like the reflections in the water and the reeds in the foreground. Superb!
