[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The weather here is awful, bleak, cold and raining. There isn't much to photograph around at the moment. This Jackdaw summed up the feeling for me. As you can see from the BG there isn't much colour around at the moment.

Some Jackdaw facts from the RSPB Website:
Jackdaw
Corvus monedula
A small black crow with a grey neck and pale eyes. It is sociable and usually seen in pairs or larger groups. It is quite and acrobatic flier and flocks will often chase and tumble together in flight. On the ground it both walks and hops.

Where does it live?

Breeding
Woodland, parks and gardens with areas of grassland nearby to feed on. In towns it will breed in roofs and chimneys, which simulate its more natural tree hole nest sites.

Wintering
Similar to breeding - but spends time in stubble and ploughed fields, and pasture, often in the company of rooks.

Where to see it
Fields, woods, parks and gardens. Absent from the Scottish Highlands. Often found on grasssland and pasture. Roosts communally in woodlands.

What does it eat?
Insects, seeds and scraps.

What does it sound like?
'Kee-ow' and 'tchack' calls.

Hi Karan

Superb shot of this Bird, really nice composition and a great thoughtful pose by the Jackdaw, maybe he is wondering when we are finally going to get one of those bright Sunny frosty mornings, the black has come out really well too.

Hello Karan

An excellent capture of this crow. They are not easy to get good shots of.The crows winter here in my area ,and everyday thousands of them fly into the city to roost for the night and then head out in the morning to the countryside.I like the composition ,very nice detail in the plumage and post.TFS

Hello Karan,
The weather here is also bleak and awful but at 5 deg not cold for Swedish standards. We have plenty of Jackdaws but in this darkness it is not as easy to take as good a shot as this one.
The comp., BG and POV are all excellent and the pale eye looks good too.
TFS and Happy New Year!

Excellent jackdaw shot!!
Really well managed with all this black, not easy to chose the right exposure.

Perfecto Karan, un trabajo original...es precioso este disparo. saludos TP

Hola Karan,
Excelente toma de bella composición y gran calidad por su luz y extraordinaria nitidez. Que tengas un feliz 2007. Un cordial saludo

Difficult guys to capture as they are black colored with a blue metallic glance viewable under a certain light angle.
Nice shot...maybe closing the aperture a little more to increase the depth of field range could be an option; doesn't matter.
Good work, Karan.

Hi Karan,
My sunny moments are gone as well. Its grey again and we got rain as well. You captured this guy very good, with awesome details and the sharpness around the eye is spot on. I like the human like expression in its face. The aperture could be a tad better, but nothing to worry about. Is this taken with your xmas present?
TFS,
Niek

Hi Karan.
What a nice reflection of the bird face expression. Great POV. You managed to cope with light BG and black tones of the bird very well. I like your composition and note too. Best wishes and TFS.

Hi Karan.
Excellent sharp detail of the head, neck and beak. The shots has it's own Alfred Hitchcock kind of mood :)

Hi Karan,
Great details you captured with this difficult black bird. Always difficult to capture black birds or other black species. Nice composition and good colours.

Found your Jackdaw Karan!
Really good shot. Sharp as a tack with a background that makes him stand out. Talking of the background you've done a grand job keeping the bird well exposed in this light.
Well done

Simon

Hello Karan,
A lovely fellow, presented in this fine composition!
I like the fine details in the plumage, come out quite well in spite of the difficult black feather coat...
Greetings,
Pablo -
