Bee orchids
Now here is something interesting: I had always been told that Bee orchids flowered once then died. Not so and factoid this little tale. Bee orchids can take five years to grow a tuber big enough to provide the plant with enough energy to flower once they flower its takes a number of years to once again flower, but sort of every year it may send up a few leaves for a while before retreating again.
Anyway we get loads of Bee orchids at Wimpole and in Tadlow I have seen thousands on occasion. |

Hello Simon,
What a wonderful bunch you've captured here, very sharp and beautiful colours. It is hard to photograph them as they are small and often low down in the grass and you need to see the "slippers" from above, so I think you've done very well. A close-up of one flower added in the right hand corner would have been great.
You're very lucky to have so many around you!!
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Simon,
Your beautiful composition with these charming Bee Orchids (don't grow in Sweden) caught my eyes the other day and still do as I return to it! I also appreciate your informative note very much. A suggestion: perhaps a picture centering on the round of blossoms would be feasible with an appropriate framing? Thank you very much for this delightful and summery contribution,
Goran
