Another photo taken while fishing. There was a summer storm gathering, the light was softened. This mother mallard and her young had entertained us for close on a half an hour. The sweet corn and hemp seed we were using as bait had attracted their attention. We could have reached down and scooped up the ducklings, they had no fear of us. As the storm moved in the mother gathered up her young and disappeared... then the skies opened up.
I like this photo for the patterns in the water caused by the ducklings diving and dabbling. The picture looks static at first but on closer inspection there are two ducklings in motion. My only regret is that the duckling on the extreme right is diving out of the frame.
I ran this through Paint Shop Pro Photo XI using Smart Photo Fix, adjusted the brightness/contrast levels and then sharpened a bit to bring out more detail around the mother duck's head and to pick up the light reflected in her eye. |

Michele, the picture is really great.
A natural can cute moment.
Great exposure and sharpness.
I like pov too.
I always enjoy a photo that has a story that goes with it, lends to a more pleasurable viewing. Both the shot and your intro merit recognition, nice work indeed.

Lovely pic Mish. This is cute and very well taken and photoshopped just right. Pity about the duckling but we have no control over them wouldn't it be lovely if we could say stay still and say cheese. :) Can just imagine your ducklings all queueing up in a row with smiles on their faces and the mother duck looking on with an indulgent and proud smile. I know imagination running riot here. But your pic set it off. Tranquil and enjoyable. Someday have to share these surroundings.
Love

Hello Michele,
this is such a wonderful shot, I guess an family outing you captured here. Great POV and the details are wonderful. I like the composition a lot with the ducks among the greenery. Very nice colors and good sharpness. I would have cloed out the partial duckling, but over all a very nice composition.
