[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Thought this Mute Swan cygnet with his mottled cloak made a nice subject. Unfortunately the lady mallard seemed to be here there and all around and I could not isolate the swan from her.

Young birds are not the bright white of mature adults, and lack the bright orange bill. The color of the down may be a dull white or gray, and controversy exists over whether the color is related to their gender. The gray (or "Royal") chicks start off with gray down and grow in gray-brown and white feathers, giving them a mottled look. White (or "Polish") chicks have all white down and juvenal feathers. Adults of the white morph may have pink or gray legs and feet instead of black, but otherwise the adults look alike.

Hi Michele,
A very nice shot on this young Mute Swan. A good exposure has the colors and detail in the plumage looking great. Good DOF has it all looking sharp. The lady Mallard does not look bad in there.
