[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I find it very difficult to catch these fast moving Tits. I guess I should use some cover or a hide and they might hang around longer. I photographed it yesterday when the sun was out making good light.

Great tit
Parus major
The largest UK tit - green and yellow with a striking glossy black head with white cheeks and a distinctive two-syllable song. It is a woodland bird which has readily adapted to man-made habitats to become a familiar garden visitor. It can be quite aggressive at a birdtable, fighting off smaller tits. In winter it joins with blue tits and others to form roaming flocks which scour gardens and countryside for food.

Where does it live?
Breeding
Open deciduous woodland, conifer woodlands, hedgerow trees, parkland and gardens. Needs suitable mature trees with nestholes, although will use nestboxes.
Wintering
Same as breeding habitats, although some birds may leave higher ground in the north of the UK, going to lower, more sheltered valleys.

Where to see it
Woodlands, parks and gardens across the UK. Absent only from the Northern and Western Isles of Scotland.

What does it eat?
Insects, seeds and nuts.
What does it sound like?
Song a repeated 'tee-cher tee-cher'. Many calls.

When to see it
All year round.

Great shot and really great details.
I am sorry that the head is out of focus.
This is ruining a perfectly good picture.

Agree that it's a shame that the focus point is on the body and not that all important eye, it is hard to capture these small fast moving birds. Where I go to photograph these is a public car park out in the New Forest where they are used to cars being parked close to them. In the winter when their natural food is scarce they are much easier to photograph as their hunger makes them stick around longer, return sooner if you do scare them, and generally they'll give you far more chances then in summer where they are hunting caterpillars in the foliage. I can usually end up either sat in the drivers seat shooting out of the window at a range of some 6 feet... or I reverse the car in and shoot out of the boot at a range of about 3 to 4 feet.

Hi Deborah, splendid bird, great photo with splendid colors and light, excellent details, very well done, brava, have a nice week end, ciao Silvio

Lovely shot, I like the pose and the beautiful colours. Great POV. Excellent DOF. I agree with the comments on the focal point but it is still a lovely picture

Hi Deborah,

Indeed hard to capture, but you managed well however next time you should try to focus on the eye instead of the body, anyway a nice shot

Hi Deborah this shot is very close to perfect!

I think you probably know the one aspect that is slightly off, namely the focus point that is on the body instead of the head. So one nit is all!

The rest of the photo is excellent, your standard of work is really improving fast! I love the colour rendition in this and the low point of view there is also superb bokeh.

The fact he's got that seed in his mouth is the icing on the cake. The detail where it is sharp is fantastic. I understand how quick these birds are as I tried some bird photography yesterday and it's tough going!

Well done on this, next time you'll nail everything!

Regards
Simon

Hello Debz excellent shot seems like i missed this while I had the flu. nice detail in the feathers great colour and lighting I think focus is spot on but the 1/125sec can be tough especially a bird with food in its mouth and moving a lot. Well done tfs best rgds Necip.
