What a beauty you managed to picture with great skillfulness. Amazing natural BG highlights the features of this dragonfly perfectly. Reproduction of the insect is great: whole image is in focus, colours are amazing, details are perfect. I also loke cropping and composition of the shot Applied equipment and technique are perfect too. Bravo and my best wishes.

I like the green dragonfly, when I see this blue than see I a new wonderful type, I agree with your choice, this is a very lovely insect.

Great details are captured in this fine macro!
I like the criss-crossing lines in the composition, maybe disturbing at first but it enhances the experience of the insect!

From your note you say you had enough light, so you didn't used flash then?

bien vu car ce genre de libellule est rarement posé,en general on les voit aller et venir en quete d'un insecte a manger!
excellente netteté et même si les retouches apportées dans le WS sont utiles cette photo reste vraiment tres bonne.

Hi Jaap,
lovely dragon fly you capture, its wings look like they made out of glass. The macro work is excellent, very detailed and sharp.
A grreat DOF keep the entire insect in focus and the wonderful lighting gives it its lovely transparency.

This is a splendid shot of this impressive and large hawker! I used to love my encounters with the species from this genus in autumn last year...they would sometimes pose calmly and those photos would just make my day ;)

The composition you created here is excellent and the conreast with the BG is great - making the subject stand out so beautifully.
I also like the DOF that you used here that helped you keep both the entire body and the wings in very good focus.

Hi Jaap

An excellent capture under very trying circumstances. The years of experience and acquired skill clearly shows on this posting. Having said that, I must also point out that I think Howard's rendition in his workshop really brought forward the full potential and beauty of this shot, but that is thanks to his PP skills and he would not have been able to do that if he did not have a sound basis to work from.

You did an excellent job on the exposure control – resorting to ISO 800 due to the lack of sun light, pushing the aperture to f/14, and utilising the fill-in flash to achieve a great result. Remarkable contrasts and good colour definition was another outcome of the well chosen settings. The wide DOF also ensured sharp details on the entire insect.

Hoi Jaap,
Hiervoor moet je toch echt een getraint oog voor hebben. De schutkleur van deze is gewoon perfect. Erg knap dat je deze hebt kunnen localizeren. Het detail en patroon is erg mooi en de doorzichtige vleugels heb je perfect weten vast te leggen, vooral om dat je de rietstengels er door heen ziet. Dit zou ik zeker ook wel willen kunnen.

Well I certainly like the results too. Excellent image, the quality is just perfect. What a beautiful looking Dragonfly the detail can be seen so well in your image of it. My aim is to one day capture an image of a dragonfly.

This image looks pretty sharp considering the 800 ISO and the 2x converter. I like the simplicity of both the composition and the color palette. It is a nice presentation.
