I took this picture in the Zoo of Amneville, some weeks ago. There is a nice vivarium with lots of different reptiles, most of them I had never seen before. Turtles, crocodiles, snakes lizards, varans, etc... It was really very interesting.

This little one reminds me of a small dragon. It was approximately 35 cm long (without the tail) and moved very quickly, which was rather surprising for me because all the others were so slow. He jumped from one rock to another, very agile, so it was quite hard to get a picture. I oly got one.

Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of his name, as I intented to when I entered the vivarium. So now cant tell you any ID - if somebody knows it would be nice to help me ! :-)

You can also see that he was loosing his skin, on the back. Almost all the reptiles in the vivarium did, at this time. In the anaconda's cage, there was a huge empty skin laying in the water, almost big enough for a human to hide inside. Really really impressive.

Hope you enjoy it, and thank you for your comments / critiques !

Hi Valerie,
Splendid profile shot of this 'little dragon'. Awesome intent on its eyes and you have captured a nice pose. Nice green colour tones and impressive sharpness with fine focus on its head. I like your POV and the way the old skin is peeling off its body. Very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Hi Valerie.
You managed to picture this cute animal at very expressive pose. Composition of the shot is really wonderful. I also like flash work. Lighting is soft and impressive. POV and details of the main subject are great. Brown BG is excellent too. Perfect done and kind regards.
Alexei.

Hello Valerie.
Very nice dragon imahes in wich I like the poese of the animal very much.
Green color tones of the dragon are wonderful and due to that it does stand out nicely against the darker colored BG.
The image seems a little overexposed though and it also gould use a little more sharpness.
I did rework it a little in photoshop.
Hope you like it.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a great weekend, Harry

Hello Valerie,
Lovely capture of this little dragon.POV,colors, details, framing and 3D effect are wonderful.Have a great weekend!
TFS..:-)

What a lovely pose this cute animal has adopted for you, Valerie!
This is a brilliant shot with well managed fill-flash lighting. The colours and details on the animal are sharp and clear.
How fortunate to have a place where you can see a variety of reptiles!
Well done and TFS.

Hi Valerie

This is the socalled Jesus Christ lizard or the Emerald basilisk lizard - Basiliscus plumifrons. It got the name "Jesus Christ lizard" from its apparent ability to "run-on-water". Thanks to Paul Bratescu (AnimalExplorer) the creator of the "TrekLight Zone" or previously known as "The Dude with no Brain" and lately as "The dude who Found his Brain" who helped me with the correct zoological name. I had it as Basiliscus basiliscus, but that seems to be a brown version of an almost identical looking lizard called the "Brown basilisk lizard" or "Common basilisk lizard".

This guy sure gave you a lovely pose for the shot. I like your composition and POV with the lizard appearing from the bottom right hand corner. You did well to make the shot seem very natural as there are no Zoo paraphernalia visible. The BG is well isolated and OOF and the exposure are spot-on. Unfortunately the details seem a little soft and the colours a little dull. I cannot see what the aperture setting was, but I doubt that the DOF was a problem since I can clearly see the DOF range on the rock that the lizard is sitting on. So, it seems to me the photo is just in need of a little "Unsharp Masking” and possibly a little more "Saturation" in PP to bring out its true potential. Remember, any digital photo needs a little optimisation since the sensor tends to make a photo a little dull and unsharp so that it does not appear in the exact same way as the eye originally saw the scene. I tried a quick workshop just to illustrate what I mean.

Well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Hola Valerie.
Buenos detalles y suaves colores los de este animal.
Perfecta presentación y acertada imagen.
Saludos, JL.

Bonjour Valerie,
A very good capture of this lizard!
I like very much the clear details got, thanks to the fill flash used, and the pose caught, in which we can appreciate how the animal looks like.
It's very good the wide composition made.
Did you shot through a glass window?
Felicitacions et merci pour le partage.
Mes amities,
JM

Hi Valerie,
He looks like a water dragon to me, my son had a wide collection of different lizard species while he was growing up of which I had plenty of time with them to reconize them .not 1000% sure but he does look like one. Good DOF background and a good shot of him and even his shedding skin. TFS

Valerie,
Lovely photo.
Never seen anything like it.
Loved the W/S versions too.
Sorry, I dont know its name.
Best regards,
Mario.
P.S. Loot is the only one who "knows".

Bonjour Valérie, dragon??je ne sais pas mais il a 'air assez sympa,ça rassure.En tout cas bien vu,magnifique photo

Mich,

Excellent shot! I have seen Jesus Christ Lizard previously on television, but never so clearly. It really looks like a dragon. Very good pov and nice dof. But I agree with loot (I came to know about its id from loot's critique) about the sharpness and colours. Anyways, great shot.
