Hi all,
This is Lilac-breasted Roller which was shot at Bird show at Blijdrop zoo. This is one the most colorful birds that i have seen and it looks similar to Indian roller that i had posted long time back!
The Rollers are an Old World family of near passerine birds. They resemble crows in size and build, but are more closely related to the kingfishers and bee-eaters. They share the colourful appearance of those groups, blues and browns predominating. The two inner front toes are connected, but not the outer one.These are insect eaters, usually catching their prey in the air. They often perch prominently whilst hunting, like giant shrikes. The group gets its name from the aerial acrobatics some of these birds perform.These are birds of warm climates. They nest in an unlined tree-hole, and lay 2-4 eggs.

wonderful picture from you again...the colors in the bird remembers me, of the wigs worn by some people in a cricket match..to attract our indian players mainly.

The sharpness and details are amazing. Very good composition and pov from your part and I see you had no trouble with the bg. The colours of the bird are great and it was also nice to see the colours in flight.

Goutham, I thought the Indian Rollers were very beautiful. The European Roller beats it for colorful appearance. Is there any color left that is not there on this bird? Very well captured. Sharp and colorful.
