One of the beautiful beetles appearing in spring is the blue Alder leaf beetle (Agelastica alni). Despite its beauty it is considered to be a pest for forests.
Agelastica alni after wintering in the soil comes out in April Mai and starts feeding with Alnus leaves. In May and June they start mating followed be laying eggs. Short after adult beetles dies.
In about 14 days, or sooner if moist and warm, larvae emerges from eggs. They start feeding with Alnus plants. Depending on the available food larvae can fulfill evolution in two too four weeks. In next stage larvae become pupas standing on the remainders of the eaten leaves or in soil. After two to three weeks the young beetles emerges and begin feeding. Not long after young beetles go into moist soil or moos and fall in a summer sleep. In autumn they wake up feed and look for places to stay over winter.
Even considered to be a pest these bugs remain a beautiful presence in the forest. |

the colours, the light and the light reflecions are well managed. You show a very clear picture of that beetle.
It is well focused, very sharp and nicely composed. Altogether, an attractive picture of the species.
