This beautiful moth scared me twice, as it appeared unexpectedly and at places I have never seen before, as well as because of it´s wingspan - more than 10cm. In fact - these photos are from the only occasions when I saw this kind of moth at all.
The first photo is from a barn where we store fire-wood. The second was taken a week later, when I was mowing grass and it just appeared in front of me, sitting on a lilac/syringa tree. The beauty of the wings had faded away, probably as it tried to get out of the barn...
I tried to find a classification of this specie, but without any success. The only thing I am sure is that this is a moth (a night butterfly), since in the daytime it was sleeping and barely reacting on touching of the wings.
