First I will thank you all for the nice comments and words of my previous posts.

As I wrote yesterday we have a small numbers of butterflies at the moment because of the heat.
But instead a great numbers of dragon- and damselflies show up.
This is a young and fresh four spotted Chaser, they a very common and quite early in the summer.
It’s taken with my new Sigma 150mm Macro-lens and a 1.4x converter and of course a tripod.
The tripod is the macro-photographers best friend.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Four-spotted Chaser, known in North America as the Four-spotted Skimmer (Libellula quadrimaculata) is a dragonfly of the family Libellulidae found throughout Europe, Asia, and North America.
A common species of Dragonfly. In the United Kingdom, the adult stage is found between April to early September. Mid May to mid August in Ireland. Larvae have a two year developemental cycle. Adults feeding predominantly on mosquitos, gnats and midges, the larvae feed primarily on other aquatic insect larvae and on tadpoles.
There is a variant form, praenubila Newman, which has exaggerated wing spots. This is believed to be related to water temperatures during larval development, and appears to be more common in Europe than in the Americas.
The male is considered to be highly aggressive and will defend a given territory from incursions from other males of the species. The male is known to form preferences for prominent perches and will often return to the same perches around the margins of pools and ponds whilst it patrols for intruders. Both Sexes are prolific fliers and mating takes place in the air, rather than on perches or amongst the vegetation. The female lays her eggs on floating vegetation.

I feel this huge Chaser is the strongest of all the Dragonflies in the world, Gert. It looks so healthy and full of vitality in your superb picture of it.
Your expertise as an ace nature photographer is more than manifest in this super shot.

This beauty stands out very well in your frame also..
I see we're using the same Sigma 150mm now :)
It is a bit faster at F/2.8 than than the 180mm.

Hi Gert,

I don't think I will ever be able to tell one dragonfly from another. We rarely see them here. Another outstanding macro with the sharpest of details. Beautiful colors and a good pose showing off those magnificent wings.

Hej Gert,
Excellent capture of Fyrfläckad Trollslända. You achieved a fine DOF from this POV to show excellent sharpness and detail.
Most of ours have become faded and old before their time because of the heat but there are still some fresh ones like this one.
TFS this fine image,

p.s congrats on your new lens!! :-) I am wondering why you replaced the 180 with the 150 though? Probably a very good reason that I'm just not aware of :-)

Hello Gert,
I have always read in TN that you are a great proponent of tripods especially in macro photography and this is yet another of those moments. And i admit that you lead by example ...using tripod and always showing to us its results that are stunningly razor sharp, and with excellent focus and colours in every little detail.Amazing composition of this Four Spotted Chaser Gert.
Thanks for sharing and cheers

Halo Gert,
Another excellent captured!
How could you get closer to the object with your tripod? You also need time to adjust the tripod's legs. The noise of rough will make them runaway... :(
I really appreciate your spare time.
Best regards
Yasin

Hi Gert,
what a wonderful presentation. We see a lot of dragonflies on TN but you excel here in many respects. There is sheer magic in the picture because of the sophisticated use of light. Just great, my compliments Gert.
Best regards
Dietrich
