[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Found in Europe, Asia, and even north Africa, it is one of the longest lived butterflies, living up to thirteen months, although most of this time is spent in hibernation.

On the upper side the male is sulphur yellow and the female white with a greenish tinge but both have an orange spot in the center of each wing. They never settle with their wings open and from the underside the sexes are more difficult to separate but the female is still paler. Their wing shape is unique among British butterflies (although there are similar, closely related species in southern and eastern Europe) and is designed to act as camouflage while they rest and during hibernation. widely distributed across the southern half of the UK, it has been steadily increasing its range in the north of England but is limited by the distribution of its larval foodplants and is quite possibly close to its maximum possible distribution now unless their foodplants' range also increases. In Ireland it has a much more localised distribution. It is widespread across Europe, North Africa and eastwards to Mongolia Often the first butterfly to be seen in the spring, sometimes as early as January when hibernating adults are awoken on a sunny day, there is a popular myth that it is this butterfly which gave us the word BUTTERFLY, a corruption of butter-coloured fly.

Hello Siggi,
A male Brimstone against the light can make a great shot, as you have done here. Nice and sharp and well composed on the buddleia ,but most of all the lighting is what makes this shot!
TFS this beauty,
Ivan

Hi Siegfried. I have as yet to get a good picture of a Brimstone like this one. I like the way you have the light shining through the wings. shaowing the markings. good colours and fine detail. well done TFS.
Nick..

Have a good weekend.

Hello Siegfried,

I see you have captured many butterflies on the buddleia! It is a wonderful plant for attracting them!
This is an unusual butterfly for me. I like the transparency of the wings. The back light is allowing the abdomen to show through the wings!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Czesc Siggi!

Swietne zdjecie cytrynka! Motyl bardzo popularny na TN, ale Tobie udalo sie go uchwycic w bardzo interesujacy sposob. Swiatlo z tylu przeswietlilo zwierzaka i mozemy zobaczyc cien jego odwloka przez skrzydla. Kapitalna kompozycja.

Hi Siggi,
Excellent capture of this beautiful butterfly, not sure whether it is the same that is seen in Finland (known there as "lemon butterfly"). Great POV and composition, sharp detais and beautiful colours.

Hello Siggi. This shot is immaculate with excellent sharpness and translucency of the wings. Beautiful perch on the violet flower. I like the well framed shot and thanks for sharing. Best regards. Jusni

Gran belleza, gama de contrastes y colores en esta toma. La luz se te escapa :-) en algunos puntos. Buen encuadre.
Buen fin se semana Siegfried: Josep Ignasi

Hi Siegfried,
A lovely capture of this beautiful brimestone bf. Superb details and a lovely composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hallo Siggi,
Peter

Hello Siggi,
Very nice capture of the Brimstone with the light coming through its wings. Fine details too and beautiful colours. It's just a little too tightly cropped for my liking.
TFS and cheers, Ulla

Hi Siggi, superb backlight with wonderful colors, great macro with wonderful details, very well done, have a good week end, ciao Silvio

Hello Siegfried,

Czesc Ziggy,
gatunek u nas popularny, ladne ujecie, skrzydelka jakby przeswietlone przez sloneczne swiatlo. Podoba mi sie.
