It's so good to open and enjoy the high quality of the picture you present us.
I must say its not a surprise but a confirmation of your remarkable work.

The DOF here is absolutely great, its so good the way you isolated the insect and made the background looks like almost a neutral plane.
Excellent composition made with the inclination, and an effective lighting that produced those fine details on the subject.

Dear Alexei,
an enormous wealth of tiny hairy, extremely precise details in this speedy encounter. Marvellous arrangement of light and shadow, very pleasant soft colours. Excellent composition in front of a background that could not have been set up in a better way in any still life studio photography. Very artistic high-end quality photography.

Hello Alexei,
Not only have you captured this Bombylius species with fine sharpness, lighting and from an excellent POV, but you have had the patience to wait for it to appear in just the right position for you to approach and focus in on it so well to make this beautiful and well composed shot.
For this I congratulate you and thank you for sharing it.
There is no doubt in my mind that this is a Bombylius species, but I think it it another species than major. Major is found in the spring. This was taken in the summer and it has a lighter colour and much lighter legs than major, so I assume it is another species of Bombylius.

Hi Alexei,

Your photos always have a very special look to them and the highest of quality. This is a fascinating looking Bee Fly with those long long legs. Colors are excellent - he looks almost golden. Razor sharp details - if I were ever to see one I would know exactly what it was because of this shot. Beautiful flowers, background and composition.

Hello Alexei,

A wonderful macro showing excellent details of this curious little fly. You have captured his legs and proboscis very clearly as well as his fluffy body. He reminds me of little furry toy bugs that the children used to get to stick on their clothes!

Yes, it looks like Bombylius, one of most sympatic flies. As you wrote it is very mobile and hard to capture. You did great job here my friend! Bujanka [in Polish :-)] is sharp, with nice honey-like colours and first of all frozen during flight. I really like your post.

The only word that comes to mind after looking at this image is: MATCHLESS!
The fly with the golden fleece and the flowers with varying colours of fleece seem to be made for each other, Alexei.

Amazing light in this picture, I just wonder how you managed that, especially without flash. I kow these insects from my stonegarden, and I know how quick they are. You have frozen its flight in the ideal moment and with the usual excellent sharpness.

WOW. I have never seen a been with such beautiful golden hair over entire body. This one is a beauty! I think your macros have the best DOF of any I see. The entire subject is always in fine focus and the background always has a wonderful blur. The fact that this small bee was actually hovering makes the details that much more impressive. Thanks for sharing another wonderful photo.

I was absent last 2 weeks because of trip to Greece (unfortunatelly not to Georgia...) so now it's time to see what I overlooked in your gallery :) Today I am starting with "Pinokio" fly ;)
Very nice capture of Bombylidae fly, in natural pose and with natural colours. I have to say that I like a lot to observe this small "helicopters" flying over the flowers. These are really great flyers as for me! :>

I have been much occupied lately and just could not get the time to visit some of the images, including yours and leave my comments.
A stunning and vibrant close up of this Bombylius major. This is an absolute striking presentation. Excellent! You have captured this bee well and the detail is remarkable. I like the golden body hairs which are displayed so well, the big eyes and the very long legs. The flowers with its “Xmas decorations” appearance is an eye catcher. This was a real pleasure to look at this image. Although last in the queue at this time and date I do want to congratulate you on this great image. Thanks for sharing.

I suppose there are 2400 kinds among bombylius, and many of them yet undescribed because the only way to identify them properly is by gender organs and wing veins.

Absolutly perfect!!! What a precision in focus and high sharpness! The composition as well is perfect and beautiful with those nice colors.
The genus bombylius is rather difficult to determine when the chap is flying, for the way to look the id is through the pattern of the wings, if I am not mistaken. This Bombylius has a beautiful hair anyway!
