Actually this wonderful mammal has been photographed in captivity; this is 'political correctness' in terms of terms of service;-)
I regret I don't have a lot of information about him.
On the other hand I photographed him a lot of times. I know him a bit even without the meta and I imagine it's a bit vice versa as well:-).

Underexpose 1/3 stop to get detail in these whites.

Hoi Annick,
Het mag dan wel een beetje teleurstellend zijn je deze in een dierentuin hebt genomen naar zo veel prachtige foto's uit Afrika. Maar ik kan we dan ook wel voorstellen dat de omstandigheden hier makkelijker zijn. De foto is daarom niet minder mooi. Super scherp en prachtig qua kleur. De snede maakt het nog mooier.

These zoo lions have it easy - but still they do look sad. No doubt he's dreaming of the African savannah.

Just a quick one now...trying to catch up after my trip last week :)
No matter where this is taken, this is a very beautiful and dramatic portrait! I love the tight composition here and the expression on its face.
You did good to compensate to a lower exposure...those whites are vert difficult sometimes :)

The eyes look austere or forbidding in aspect, but also very sad Annick.
Captivity will do that..

A great shot, just lovely. The face filling the frame, means that all you can focus on is that majestic face. the colours are lovely and the sarpness is perfect. a lovely shot. but how did you get up so close.

Het lijkt wel of deze leeuw beseft dat hij in gevangenschap leeft. Een trieste uitdrukking heeft hij.
Belichting, kleuren en scherpte zijn perfect. Fantastische uitsnede.
