A Frosty morning in the Lake District. This photo was taken near Elterwater. We spotted this scene from the car and made our way down. The frost was very much in the shade and so for this I used a total of 4 stop ND graduated filters.

I like the overall view and I really like the frosty Bracken in the foreground.

I hope you like it.

Hi Paul,

I like the composition as the frost shows nicely in the shade. Good sharpness and DOF.

You captured the essence of a cold morning with the mist between the trees. Well done.

Yo Paul!!!
It's a beauty, nicely captured, you managed to keep all the tonal values from fore to back.
BTW, if you would like to make some huge amount of quid with landscapes, give me a call, and I'll make you a believer. LOL
Seriously bro, you have to give B/Ws a go.
I just converted this one to B/W and man is it sweet. I'm sorry for going on like this, but please, give it a chance. ;)
Anyhow, I'm deleting it from my files, I just had to see. I'm smilling big time. Cheers.

Beautiful work. My Dad is from the Lake District, this would bring back memories for him.

What a wonderful wintery snowscene Paul. It looks so crispy and cold. BBbbbbrrrrr.
The autumn leaves on the trees give it such a lift, well done,

The rolling hills here give such a soft tranquil feel to your shot Paul. From the clouds in the background to the frosty grass in the foreground your shot has such nice composition and perspective. I like all the different colours and textures and how they all work so nicely together. A lovely landscape.

Hi Paul,
Looks like the morning light here was soft, warm, and beautiful. Overall composition and framing look great. I cam almost smell that crisp clean looking air. The use of the ND filter aloows fo an wxcellent balance inthe composition. Nice camera work!
Scott

Looks like the 4 stop ND did the trick. I can't see the transition. I suppose if one were using multiple filters one could stagger the gradation line. This is really nicely exposed.

Excellent shot, Paul!
Absolutely amazing, frosty morning in late autumn on bright sunny day. You've got everything here, colorful deciduous leaves of forest at BG, clear blue sky with pure white cloud, and frosty vegetation at FG. Rare composition.
Perfect.

Wow! great view!
I really like the good exposition you reached in all the picture using the grad filter!!
The contrast between the hot colours of the trees and the cold frost is wonderful!!
And the small clouds add a +!!
TFS, Enrico.

What a beauty, Paul!
I love the composition, the colours and the depth of view.
A perfect landscape in every respect.
Thanks for sharing this lovely picture.
Regards.

This is just stunning. I haven't really seen much frost at all this year. The colours are just amazing. The blue/green frosty grass looks gorgeous contrasting against the warm autumnal tones. Just lovely

Hi Paul

A lovely cool scene indeed. There is such a comp[rehensive array of colours in the shot and the low mist has emphasised the mood. Lovely to view. :-)

Ricardo

Beautiful presentation my friend with areas very marked, intense colors and an excellent point of view and election of the framing.
Personally I like a lot the percentage that you chose for the sky and the frozen ground, the mountains and bushes, offering somehow a symmetry to the composition.
My best wishes... Ricardo

Hi Paul,
This is what I am waiting for to happen in my neck of the woods. I just love to photograph the morning frost. The fall colors are still cleary visable and add a great play of colors in the BG. Love the little patches of fog on the left and the stunning blue sky. The ND filters really helped to balance the exposure.
TFS,
Niek

super shot and good explanatary note, well done, love it!

Hello Paul, VERY beautiful landscape, and wonderful mood capture. Love the frosty foreground that makes the perspective very dynamic. Very good light and beautiful weather situation! Well done..

It's nice to see this area in the winter. Good composition and perfect job on the exposure. The 4 stops looks great (not "matched" but appropriate levels of contrast for a digital camera and TN). So was that 2 filters or 3? I'm guessing a .3 and a .9. (Since you were shooting at 18mm, I know you can't stack 2 filters without vignetting on that lens at 10mm).
Mike

Hello Paul,

This is a really beautiful image. I am really starting to get home sick now. Its been over a year here in Sweden and its been tough. Looking through your shots sometimes i wonder why the heck i left the UK. All these places you are taking shots of I have been to many times with my ex partner, my new partner and even staff members from work on work trips away.

How fantastic you make these areas look.

See you later
