After a long day visiting the countryside near Freiburg, we went to visit an old water mill. Close to the water weels, a bunch of 6 spiders were standing in the middle of their web and one was busy fixing its web. She wasmoving all the time so I could'nt get a good shot at her and this picture lack of DOF but I like the luminous background that I didn't get in my previous posts (1 and 2). I'm not good at all with spider taxonomy but I think that it might be Larinioides sclopetarius after looking at Ed Nieuwenhuys excellent website. He says that "The Larinioides sclopetarius tends to live on man-made steel objects and is seldom found on vegetation". I confrim this with this observation. He also mentions: "I found this spider in the dunes on a steel lock. The spider can be black and white but there are also brown variants."
FAMILY: ARANEIDAE Simon, 1895
Genus: Larinioides Caporiacco, 1934
Species: Larinioides sclopetarius (Clerck, 1757)
Family Common Name: orbweavers
Species Common Name: bridge orbweaver
This spider has a velvety appearance and is found in the vicinity of water. It seems to be a nocturnal orb-web spider that is either found in the hub or in the retreat |
