Polyommatus icarus.

It’s a small butterfly with gleaming blue upper part, narrow black line near the edges and white tassel. The lower part is grey brown with black, wit rim spot and a range orange spots along the edges of the behind wings. Females are of above brown, with some blue and orange spots. The span of the wings is about 25 mm. In the Netherlands they live everywhere in the country. You must seek them, but if you do, you will find them. In one year comes 1 till 3 new generations out of the eggs.



The butterflies and the caterpillars suck nectar. They get it from flowers from difference sorts of spice. Some of the caterpillars try to over live the winter, and comes in spring out of the cocoons. The further development goes afterwards very fast, of generation on generation. There very many blue ones exist and it is often a laborious work, distinguish them of each other. A lake or less clear blue colour to the upper part, and small spots around the eyes, is to base is all types own. The caterpillars of some types become by fiddle visited, because the sweet juice which they break away.

Today I go farther. I try 800 asa out, with this 70-300 mm lens and the canon close up lens 5ooD. This last one you can use as a filter, you can screw it up.
I used it together with a speedlight 420 ex. You know I get pleasure in it, because it's working. It this one I try some thing out what members said in there critique. Howard says use a tripod for shots like this one, well I must admit, not a bad result. Another friend says, use a higher speed, for a little much movement and it must be better. well I did do it to and I must say, I like the results I made this day. So, I am still learning, and important I want to learn. I hope you like it too.

Hallo Jaap,
Considering you used ISO 800 this is a pretty smooth shot. Well composed and sharp you present this male Common Blue with good contrast with the yellow flowers.

Vrolijk Kerstfeest.

Met dit type van foto's bent u werkelijk opgevallen bij mij, ik vond altijd dat uw vlinders de grote doorbraak waren, en een bijzondere kennis van macro's maken, hier uit heb ik enorm veel geleerd, ik weet al dat dit geen gemakkelijke foto was om te nemen, de gele bloemen zijn zeer sterk van kleur tegenover de vlinder, maar u weet dit altijd op een schitterende manier op te lossen zodat wij een pracht exemplaar krijgen, mooi gedaan.

I like colors a lot, as well as saturation.

I want to say the same to you as I've just said to some other members, "Although this is a rather aged posting (Christmas 2006) I hope you still visit the site from time to time to see what has transpired and thus will see this comments. I am trying my best to catch the last bit of Christmas 2008 and with time running out at a drastic rate I had to push to get this in before the final bell tolls".

A beautiful shot of this Icarus butterfly. I just love how the blue insect is complimented by the brilliant yellow flowers. Lovely colours and nice sharp details makes this a feast for the eyes.
