Macrovipera lebetina (Blunt-nosed viper, Levantine viper)

This is a large snake, with females reaching 214 cm in length and males growing to a similar size. However, sizes vary between different populations, with M. lebetina lebetina being somewhat smaller. Its range includes the island of Cyprus, N Africa, Turkey, W and Middle Asia; with a vertical distribution to 2000 m. This venoumous snake species of Cyprus, is frequently seen in the vicinity of Geçitköy (Panagra), Karsiyaka (Vasilia) and Lapta (Lapethos) (District Kyrenia) and also in Karpaz District. It is represented with the nominate race, V. lebetina lebetina which is an endemic subspecies for the island of Cyprus.
The head is broad, triangular and distinct from the neck. The snout is rounded and blunt when viewed from above, which is why it is also called the blunt-nosed viper.
A stout snake with a total length up to 130-180 cm, the most stout and dangerous snake species of Cyprus. Top of the head covered with small, keeled scales, including over the eyes. Pupils vertical. A poisonous species with a venom which may be dangerous to man, or fatal if not treated, but does not strike if not disturbed.
During a laboratory work for determining taxonomical and venom protein differences between the Turkish and Cypriot populations of the species, I was bitten from my finger accidentally by an adult, 75 cm long blunt-nosed viper. Taking advantage of this opportunity, we conducted a study to present the clinical, physiological, serological and biochemical developments after envenomating. Bu sefer de Kıbrıstan güzel bir engerek yüklemişsin. Kıbrısta gezerken allahtan 2 metrelik bir engerekle burun buruna gelmedim. Gerçi Ahmet geldi, o fotolarını çekmişti. Gerçekten heybetli bir hayvan galiba. Eline sağlık.

I don't want to be bitten :-). It looks dangerous and at the same time beautiful. I was a bit puzzled 'cause you can't detect the eye. On the other hand the POV is interesting here and you can't get it all.
