Hirundo rustica (Barn Swallow) [in Turk. Kırlangıç]

Dear Friends, I would like to dedicate this capture of a beautifull couple to a perfect couple of my beloved and heartfelt friends in TN, Ulla KRUYS (uleko) and Ivan KRUYS (argus), experts on the birds and photographing them. I took this photo in the garden of the Barnabas Abbey and Church in Famagusta, near the Salamis Ruins.

The other detailed information of the species was given in another capture of the species from the same location. Thus, no more additional knowledge is present here.

However I wished to mention that the history of the Saint Barnabas (You can see its general appearance in WS version). I hope you can like these shots and the history [below :)] of the photographing site.
All the best, Cheers,

-The Monestry was built in 447 A.D.
-The building got its present structure in 1756 during the Ottoman rule.
-The place was preserved and protected in its original form and opened to visit. Various icons, wall paintings and other items were displayed in the Church within the Monestry precincts.
The church and monestry of Saint Barnabas are situated at the western edge of Salamis necropolis. Information about the personality and work of Saint Barnabas comes from historical sources.
Born in Salamis, Saint Barnabas was the son of a jewish family. He began work with Saint Paul to spread Christianity. As a result of these activities, he was killed by fellow Jews and his body was hidden in a marshland, later to be dumbed into the sea by night. A number of Barnabas followers who witnessed the incident secretly took the body away and buried it together with the St. Mathews Bible which Barnabas used to carry in a cave under a carob tree to the west of Salamis. After a lapse of 432 years the burial site was revealed to bishop Anthemios in a dream. The Saint Mathews Bible found in the grave was proof that the remains was that of St. Barnabas. The bishop took the remains to Istanbul and presented to the emperor Zeno. Upon this, the emperor declared the autonomy of the island’s Church and donated money for the building of a Monestry at the burial site.

Hi Bayram,

I have only seen barn swallows once. I was in a barn in a castle somewhere in Europe and saw a nest full of babies when a parent came to feed them. It was the highlight of that day for me and this picture reminds me of that. Thank you for the memories.

Dear Bayram,
How very kind of you to dedicate this lovely capture of Swallows to us - a perfect couple, I don't know, but we do tend to get on somehow! :-) At least we really share our love of nature! These two Barn Swallows look beautiful in the fine light that's brought out their colours so well. Fine details and I like their big nest. A very fine composition and a surprise deviation from your theme!
Many thanks and all the best wishes, Ulla

Hi Bayram, you captured the couple of swallow very well and with nicely sharpness. Colours are pleasant and natural.
Greetings from London.

Selam Hocam,

Thank you, Bayram!
We are honoured by your tribute!
We are not a perfect couple but enjoy the same things and have the same values.
The Barn Swallow pair that you captured so well building their nest are captured from a fine POV with good light management and sharpness.
I thank you for this tribute my friend!
Best regards, Ivan

A good couple indeed for a fine couple Bayram, I am beginning to wonder when you are going to astonish us properly by uploading a jolly big elephant, my friend!

Hello Bayram,

Hi Bayram, this is a lovely picture of a couple of beautiful swallow, I love the beautiful earthy colours of both birds and the nest. It's hard to figure out how they manage to build such a nest sticking into place... Very nice picture, thank you!
