Nature and History

Dear Friends, today I would like to dedicate these captures of a beautifull “nature and history” place of Saint Hilarion Castle (Kyrenia, N. Cyprus) to one of my beloved and heartfelt friends in TN, James Parker (Jamesp) who is an expert on the photographing the wonderfull landscapes. This is also my first posting on this subject :-) I hope you can like this!

According to a legend, the castle is said to be named after a holy man and hermit who lived there for the last years of his life and is said to be buried there in 8th century AD.

A church was founded on his grave and later a monastry was built around it. In the 10th century a castle was erected around this area as part of an early-warning system. The Lusignan rulers used it during the Middle Ages as a summer residence after which Venetians took over.

Besides its enchanting historical backround, the wonderful views from St. Hilarion castle are not to be missed. I captured these images during our herpetological trips to that region. It is located at approx. 1000 m asl on the Kyrenian Mountain Range in N. Cyprus.

Thankyou so much for this kind dedication. This is a lovely shot and I am very flattered. Excellent composition, with grat DOF and colours. I especially like the shaft of light on the rock and dead tree which form great focal points.

Hi Bayram,

Wonderful dedication to James who has taught us so much and shown us so many sights we might never see for ourselves. You have captured the height and intricacies of this cliff beautifully. The green foliage is quite beautiful. I enjoyed seeing the castle in the workshop. You certainly are a versatile photographer.

What a beautiful place, filled with history, very ancient times and a whole story still being told. Superb picture of this hillside, Bayram, with rocks and trees. I really like the composition and your notes are most instructive. Thank you!

Hi Bayram,
Wonderful shot and the green vegetation and the rocky mountains gel together beautifully. A fabulous view with the over-hanging branches lending a fine perspective. Very neat and sharp image with fine colours and perfect illumination. Excellent POV to portray this charming scene and very nicely composed. Kudos.
