My Cyprus (Kıbrıs) trip continue. Tomorrow is last day in Cyprus. Addition to scientific search, I took photographes of many kind of animals, several landscape and plants.
This is seventh post of this trip. This cute face belongs to endemic subspecies, Hemiechinus auritus dorothae to Cyprus. The species is known as Uzunkulaklı Çölkirpisi [TR], Long-eared Desert Hedgehog [EN]. It ranges in Egypt, south eastern and easternmost parts of Turkey, Afghanistan, parts of India, Turkistan, SE Russia, East (Chinise) Turkistan, and Mongolia. It is an insectivorous animal feeding mainly on small invertebrates and insects.
European and Turkish hedgehogs belong to the genus Erinaceus. But this genus is not represented in Cyprus. H. auritus is smaller than Erinaceus hedgehogs, but it has relatively long ears. I posted previously another H. auritus of different subspecies from Iran.

Nice close up look at this Desert Hedgehog nAhmet.
WE always associate hedgehogs with England and Europe and long grass and hedgerows.
Its very hard to picture one in a desert, but there they are.
Nice capture.
Steve

Dr sonunda bunları da buldun demek, sevindim. Çok güzel olmuş. Eline sağlık. Mustafa

Hello Ahmet,
You open our eyes to amazing creatures that I never realised were endemic to Cyprus. This portrait of a Long-eared Desert Hedgehog is excellent: it looks like there are two. Did you catch them in a trap first?
Well done and thanks!
Best wishes, Ivan

Hi Ahmet.
Thank you very much for your decision and mark my as favorite. It is great honor for me.

I like the picture of these very cute animals/ You have created a charming portrait of it. Its curious glance is simply amazing. Picture is composed and framed perfectly. May be image is soft a little bit. My best wishes and compliments.
Alexei.
