Mesobuthus cyprius (Cyprus checkered scorpion, Cyprus Yellow Scorpion, Cyprus Scorpion)

Moderate venomous scorpion species that is endemic to the island of Cyprus. It is distributed everywhere in Cyprus. The photo was taken from the near of Gönyeli Lakelet, Nicosia, Northern Cyprus during a herpetological trip to that region last year (2007). Its habitat is Arid/semi-arid with little or no vegetation. It likes also limited humidity. It does not dig burrows, but use natural space/burrows under stones and other objects. it seems that this species might enter gardens and accidentally houses. I dedicate this photo to my close friend Ahmet Karatash (rousettus) who is an expert on the Turkish Scorpions.

Güzel, net resim, hoş kompozisyon ama (bence) berbat bir hayvan, benim gibi akrep sokmasına uğrayanlar hislerimi paylaşırlar sanırım. Sadece kahverengi ve beyaz tonlarının kullanılmış olması kompozisyona güzellik katıyor kanısındayım.

A nice capture of this scorpion. Very well captured in perfect camouflage position. The scorpion of some type also seen here in rainy seasons. I was seeing them up till 2004 now they have become very rare almost extinct. Thanks a lot for sharing this very good dedication form Mr. Ahmet.

Hello Bayram,
Fine capture of the Cypriotic Scorpion with good sharpness and detail.
Next time we travel to Cyprus we must try to explore the Northern (boreal :)) part of the island!

I found one of these last night upstairs in my children's bathroom. I bent to pick up one of their dropped washcloths and felt something flick at my thumb. I looked to see a 6cm scorpion had tried to, unsuccessfully, sting me. I have it in a tupperware box now and am trying to decide what to do with it.

This is the second time in nine years we have found one of these in our house and, on both occassions, they were in or near the children's bathroom!

Our house is in the countryside just outside Limassol.
