Hi Ivan,
a spectacular shot with brilliant detail and colours.
The DOF could be a little deeper DOF so the wing tip is in focus but not so much so the background is in focus aswell.

Hello Ivan,

Great contrast between the diffused background and the vibrant colours of the swallowtail. The light is perfect not making any harsh shadows or bright spots. You've also controlled the exposure very well. I agree with Joey that the depth of field is quite shallow, however, I think it is more the angle you chose, it will be hard to get all of the butterfly sharp from this position. Anyway its nicely presented with a simple frame and good note.

jolies couleurs de ce papillon, la composition est agréable. Doammage que la DOF soit un peu faible, on aurait pu avoir un corps bien net.

Another stunning macro work from you!
Nice to see such beautiful butterflies are already roaming up there in the north, too :) I hope they wil be so kind and not make you chase them around too much in order to take some more excellent shots :)

The composition here is most cahrming and the correct exposure gave you all these superb colors on the wings and flower.
The DOF is probabalu the only nit here...Judging after the shutterspeed (1/1000), i guess you could have tried a bigger DOF, so that you'd get the first wing in better focus.
Other than that, the sharpness in excellent and the POV is great!

Few days ago I have tried to use ultra tele lens for butterfly shooting. I have used tele lens 100-400 mm plus TC 2x. Minimal focusing distance also was 2 m. I liked this technique. I see (I think) you have used lens 300 mm and TC 1.4. For shooting so big specimen it is necessary to apply at least F8. However, this is a theory. The practice is…
Great picture. Amazing combination of this colourful beauty and terrific smooth BG. You managed to reflect the vivid colours of this specimen simply perfectly. Sharpness of the butterfly bode and flowers are stunning as well as the whole composition and beautifulness of the shot. DOF is shallow a bit My compliments and TFS.

The papilio machaon is really photogenic. You have caught it in a quite difficult pose and have managed to have a nice grey background, which underlines its beauty.

Hello Ivan,
some heavy loads of work have kept me from looking into TN for many days. So it is a great pleasure for me to discover this very lively, very elegant, perfectly clear capture of a Swallowtail from Cyprus, balancing in the air while sucking nectar from that small blossom. Very pretty composition, again.
This year has shown to be a very good year for swallowtails, also in Central Europe. Grateful to see this conspicuous species quite frequently now, and always happy to see its elegant beauty that you have so well captured here in motion.
