Hardun Agama - Laudakia stellio cypriaca

The weather has forced me to look into my archives and today I’m posting an Agama Lizard captured on South Cyprus. Just below the hotel where we stayed in Paphos there were plenty of these beautiful Lizards along the rocky coastline. I was later quite surprised to find the same species high up in the pine forest on the Akama peninsula. While photographing orchids I just happened to see this one running up a tree trunk.

This impressive Lizard was about 25 cm in length and you can see the strong legs and claws here gripping on to the tree. It feeds on insects such as beetles, crickets, ants and spiders.

I’ve previously posted a colourful male that you can see here.

I’d like to dedicate this to our friend Bayram, (boreocypriencis) who comes from Cyprus and who has during a short time presented us with a fantastic range of reptiles, including the Hardun Agama!

PS -- It was a complete coincidence that both Ivan and I today dedicated our posts to Bayram!! (As they say "Like minds think alike!")

Hi Ulla.
I am very gland to be next to you and your amazing picture. Great vertical composition of superb details, pleasant rich colours and fantastic in its colourfulness and smoothness BG. I like perfect lighting and precisely selected DOF which allowed to show all attractive objects with great sharpness and details. Bravo and TFS.
Alexei.

Dear Ulla!
What an interesting capture of "tree lizard"! I like POV and details (even if picture was a little too much sharpened, or this is effect of strong light?).
I can not imagine better dedication than to Bayram - reptile picture from Cyprus for reptile specialist from Cyprus ;)
Best greetings and have a nice afternoon!

Hi Ulla,

I'm laughing because I keep looking for a snake or lizared to post for Bayram and so far no luck. This one is wonderful with excellent details. He is well camouflaged and blends in perfectly with the tree. I love the tail and face. Excellent colors - excellent shot.

Hi Ulla,

a great way to picture the Hardun. Usually it just sits on a rock---or runs away. But you caught it climbing on a tree. What claws it has! Well done. I like the fact that you dedicated it to Bayram.
Best regards

Hello Ulla,
Sorry for my silence. I was in field trip and I came back newly. I saw your last nice posts. This is one of them.
As our joint friend Bayram mentioned, he has double bayram after you and Ivan's nice dedication. This is also great capture of Gurkuda. This species usually occurs on rocaky, but we can see it often on trees too. You took it from great POV/OOF. Sharpness and details very nice. eye contact, BG colors, composition and frame very nice. Thanks for sharing. best wishes

Hello Ulla,

Both this and its more colourful male, are charming! I cannot help but notice how similar, in colour, this is to the tree on which it is living! Very good camourflage! You only tend to notice such creatures when they move.

Lovely sharpness and detail, and I particularly like you composition!

kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Ulla,
Lovely shot of this Agama Lizard, the vertical crop is perfect with the tree filling right of frame, excellent detail, well framed and composed, all the best Cheers Rick :)

Hello Ulla. Brilliant looking agama well presented in vertical format. Nicely perched on the tree with small branches adding the perspective. You have muted the branch very well and Bayram should be thrilled with the dedication. Very well done and best regards. Jusni
