Petra tou Romiou - Birthplace of Aphrodite

This unusual rock formation standing in the shallow sea beside the Limassol- Paphos highway must be the most famous spot in Cyprus. It is here that Aphrodite is supposed to have emerged and set foot on earth for the first time.

Also The Greek name, Petra tou Romiou (The Rock of the Greek), is associated with the legendary frontier-guard of Byzantine times, Dighenis Akritas, who kept the marauding Saracens at bay with amazing strength. It is said in one such fight he heaved a large rock (Petra), at his enemy.

Another great one!

Focus and DOF are perfect. Perfect exposure renders excellent details in beach's shadows as well as in sky and water's highlights. Nice balanced composition using the rule of thirds.

Slendid image and TFS.

Hola Stephen, me gusta mucho la toma. Tiene una gran profundidad y unos tonos suaves que acompañan a la perfección a la sedosidad conseguida del mar.

Bicos.

Hi Stephen,
Excellent landscape. I like your compositions a lot, I would have been tempted to have the rock to one side which probably would have spoiled the shot. Excellent detail throughout and nice shore lines leading the eye straight to the rock. Nice shutter speed and good colours, a great shot.
Cheers,
Adrian

This is an amazing shot.

Hello Steve,
I very much appreciate these shots, as I try to learn the basics of landscape photography..
I don't need to add to the others comments here..It's simply a pleasure to view mf. I'm looking forward to getting out and getting some landscape shots..perhaps nothing as "sexy" as the birthplace of Aphrodite :)
Very well done!

Hi Stephen,

Gorgeous. I agree with all of the above comments! Having the rock in the center doesn't bother me. The clarity is wonderful!

great shot - I love the pebbles in the foreground. Their colours really add to what is already a wonderful shot.

Hi Stephen,
wonderful depth, I feel drawn into the place.
Delightful colour contrasts of subdued hues.
Unforgettable, very beautiful place you have chosen, too.
The round pebbles in front are perfectly placed,
waiting for Aphrodite to emerge from the see.
Excellent contribution. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards,
Peter

Hello Stephen,
I love this kind of shots. The framing is really good here with the line of beach that leads the eye to the BG with rock. Great sky and colours too. I think I wish to see a little more of the water though.
Overall, lovely shot!
VERY WELL DONE!

Hi Stephen,
Another masterpiece! The slow exposure worked out perfectly for this shot. It realy gives it a serene feeling. The details of this photo are excellent and the light and color are nice and soft. The leadlines in this shot are well balanced.
