Another one from the archives, again a few issues with this which I tried to correct in PS. First, shooting in midday sun makes for very harsh lighting. Iv almost got to the stage now were I just put my camera away. Anyhow, I have dodged- burned mid-tones and brightened greens in tree to balance things out. Saturated the rocks and added a slight warming filter in PS. Nothing beats shooting in the soft light of early morning or evening. I also cropped this one because I felt the tree in the original was maybe to centered. I may post original as WS.

Akamas Peninsula

A wild, undeveloped finger of land jutting into the Mediterranean, the Akamas is a true gem. It contains a network of nature trails and the Bath of Aphrodite. It is tentatively set-aside as a preservation area, but this status could be in danger.

It is currently a hot topic of debate with one side calling for National Park status and the other for development to bring more tourist money into the region.

A nice shot. It is a little funny to see a signal-womb shot in Greece. Definitely you technically, but with very different content. I think it works very well, good detail in the rocks and I love the sea with wave details. Good pp work compared to the WS. But I really appreciate the insights into your technique.
Mike
P.S. Again, my shot was posted right after yours, so we're in the gallery side-by-side. I'm definitely moving up in the world!

Perfecto encuadre, magnífico punto e vista, excelente, luz... saludos

Hi Steve,
Overall a great shot. As you say, the hard light shows everything in a one dimensional light. I think you had to crop the orig. with the tree where it was of course.
You have done an excellent job PP to present this one..hey, practice makes perfect :)
Well done.
PS- I went down our country road after supper hoping for some color in the sky and a good spot for a sunset shot. Found a good spot & interesting clouds but they were absent of any real color..there's always next time I guess..

I like the tree on the side of the picture.
A gorgeous rugged seascape, with interesting textures, colours and view.
Detail, framing and notes are good.

Hello Stephen
I am very fond of landscapes with a single tree. My first thought of this image is "what a brave and strong little tree". We know what harsh weather it must endure to stay on the cliff side, clinging to little more than rocks. I think you have done this tree proud. Wonderful colors and POV....TFS

Yes, I liked your cropped version a lot more than original. Your foreground rocks and spiky plants are nice. Nice PP work. This is pleasant enough but nothing compares to your morning and evening work!

Thanks for sharing

Hi Steve,
Ok, the Cyprus tourist board should also be paying you along with the Irish tourist board :-) A simple scene that you make seem so inviting, a real sense of warmth and fresh air. Great composition with that trademark lone tree, lovely detail throughout and excellent colours. It probably sounds a bit weird but if I see a tree standing out on it's own it always reminds me of your work. Great shot.
Cheers,
Adrian

Hi Stephen,
I like the crop compared with the original, it show much more detail in the most attractive part of the photo. I can see what you've done to enhance some of the more darker spot created by the large difference between lighted and shaded areas. The FG onward to the tree is very stunning, but it is a pitty to see this little halo around the top of the tree. Well you can't have it all with these kind of techniques. The composition is perfect with a good balance and depth.
TFS,
Niek

Hi Steven!

As always - lovely landscape. Great composition, colours, DOF and first of all place. I like this frame with sea, sky, rock and small tree as a big bonus to composition.
