Not much left in my archives now!

Though the Wood Sandpiper (Tringa glareola) is pretty common in Sweden and the rest of Europe during the breeding season, the closest I have been able to get to it so far was in Cyprus.

Even so, this was taken at a distance of about 12 meters, which meant that this image had to be fairly heavily cropped.

We visited some reed beds on the Akrotiri peninsula on the S. coast of Cyprus. This area is one of the best birding areas in Cyprus as many waterfowl and waders rest here after coming from Africa. When I saw group of waders on a mud bank I crouched down and slowly came close enough to take this shot. You can see this Wood Sandpiper looking at me to see if I would come closer, but he was safe as a twelve meter stretch of water separated him from me.
He is on the way to N. Europe and the Arctic where he breeds on bogs and marshes.

After size reduction this image was selectively sharpened.

Hi Ivan
I like natural surroundings. Nice mirror shot. Good sharpness, nice natural colors. Little noises in background are not important here
Best wishes
Krzysztof

Hi Ivan

Yes we can see that the image quality declines when even you start cropping. But who cares its better than my wood sandpiper (I've only seen a couple and don't have a shot at all, lol:)). The pose is characteristic and all the important identifying features are clearly visible.

cheers
Chris

Hi Ivan,

great shot! Despite the fact that the animal is weary, it is not running from you, giving it an interesting pose. Important for limicole pictures is the fact that you can inspect all the necessary details of the rump for ID! I hope you find more canned pictures in your stock!

Best regards
Dietrich

Another perfect capture from your bottomless archive Ivan, the low POV almost lengthened the legs of this fine Sandpiper specimen, making it look taller and in spite of the heavy cropping the plumage and coloration details are very satisfactory. Of course, that fine reflection really makes this a nice composition. Thanks for sharing this rare scene with us my friend, best regards,
Mehmet

Hello my dear friend Ivan,

A superb-lovely capture integrated with your excelent photography friend! Reflections on the surface of water wonderful. TFS friend!

Merhaba Ivan,
Nice to see Tringa glareola also in Cyprus by your great capture. It is very beautiful species. Your presentation great even with heavy crop. Lighting very nice, POV, composition with reflection great. I like this work very much. Blue BG wonderful and it supplied super contrast for darker foreground. TFS, well done my friend
Ahmet

Hi Ivan,

Spring can't be too far away so you shouldn't be digging into your archives much longer. I for one love seeing your past pictures. This Sandpiper is wonderful - I have never seen one. Love the pose - open beaks are my favorites. Wonderful colors, details, setting and a lovely composition.

I do enjoy these birds...seen many of them in Northern California but alas none here....at least so far. My eyes are opening much wider now thanks to TN and images such as these...The reflection is almost a bonus! Colours are nice and of course I think you cold write the books of notes...from all of your years of knowledge and learning...

because we had the the reflection of the subject on the water
and i love too the framing because there is a good space
in front where the bird is looking, excellent luminosity of the image
