Cyrtopodion (Mediodactylus) kotschyi fitzingeri (Fitzinger’s Gecko)

The detailed information of the species and subspecies was given in my some previous postings [C1, C2 & C3]. Thus, no more additional knowledge is present here. The main goal of this posting is to show the extremely camouflage in this species.

Like agamas and chameleons, almost all geckos can change colour quite rapidly, although this is mainly confined to substantial lightening or darkening of the basic pattern. Change is related to temperature -hot animals get lighter and cold ones darker- and general colouration of the environment (or background) where they live.

In this shot of the Cypriotic Fitzinger’s Gecko, you can see that It is well camouflaged on the rocky floor, and show us this gecko species mimics rocks, relying on camouflage to escape detection.

Congratulations on this milestone. I can't believe you have been on TN for only six months! You have been a dear friend and a wonderful teacher. This is a fine post - the gecko is so well cammouflaged and yet the details of the face, eye, and skin are wonderful. Here's to the next 150.

Bonjour Bayram, wow, the mimetism is perfect. I am very fascinated by mimetism and fractals, I think that we look like our environment, it shapes us, humans, and animals alike. This is superb and you captured the gecko perfectly, once again. Thank you!

First of all congratulations for Your 150th post. This is a very interesting shot, not due to the extremely nice color contrast or so, but because of the camouflage - it's magic how animals can adopt themselves to their environment. Great photo, beautiful minimalism. Congrats.

Morning Bayram
This a a beautiful Gecko and a VERY good picture. We have some very ugly pink seethrough Geckos that invade our homes by die hundreds - they are not very welcome as they make a terrible mess on the walls - but I must say that they come in very handy in summer with all the mosquitos. This gecko is perfectly camouflaged! Rock on BG looks like reptile's skin. Very detailed photo with good composition and interesting note. Good work!

What a wonderful shot. I would really like to have the opportunity to witness such behavior. I am sure that it is fascinating to watch this little guy blend into its surroundings. Your picture shows its ability to camouflage very well. If you didn't 'zoom' in on this little fellow, it'd be hard to recognize that he is actually there. Excellent work as always. TFS

This is wonderful picture! This gecko is perfectly camouflaged. Bravo also for very good DOF and sharpness. I like a lot these reptiles and really I hope to have possibilities to photograph this summer Hemidactylus turcicus during a trip to Greece :)
