| I caught this giant crab - or actually it caught me when I put my boot in a mud hole - on a wide mud flat near the edge of the mangroves in Gabrik, Eastern Hormozgan, Iran. It was quite an impressive animal, it left it's marks on my boot. We released it unharmed, even though we were told that it would have tasted wonderfully... I don't know the exact species. Maybe it's Goliath Crab? Some sort of Mud Crab? The guy holding the animal is Peter de Boer, my companion on this trip. |

Dear Paul,
I'm so interested in your photos of my country. The crab is so muddy so identidication is hard. I have been in Asalooye and kangan and in those area the most occuring species is Blue Crab which enters the mangroove regions and come more inside the terrain in night and many endemics use them as food and etc. When have you been in Iran?
