Lake Orumie:
Total area (kmē):57 000
Rainfall (mm/year):370
As % of total rainfallin Iran:5
Orumieh (Orumieh or Orumieh or Urmiye , Uromiyeh) is the capital of West Azerbaijan. It was also known as Rezaiye (Rezaiye) between 1930-1975.
Salt lake Orumieh with an area of approximately expanding to 6100 square kilometers is the largest lake in Iran. It is a salt lake that is believed to have therapeutic benefits especially for rheumatisms. The lake area is undeveloped with a few ports , hotels and spa resorts. On the second largest island in the lake called Kabudi , there is a small village. On Kabudi , you will find many different birds including flamingo and pelican. Because it is a conservation area , foreigners need a special permit to visit the island.
The lake is marked by more than a hundred small rocky islands, which are stopover points in the migrations of various kinds of wild bird life (including flamingos, pelicans, spoonbills, ibises, storks, shelducks, avocets, stilts, and gulls). The second largest island, Kaboudi, is the burial place of Hulagu Khan, the grandson of Genghis Khan and the sacker of Baghdad, where he had his treasury.
The lake itself is too salty for living fish. Most of the area of the lake is considered a national park. |

What an interesting place, Hamid, both geologically, biologically, AND historically. Thanks for the good notes.
An unusual composition showing the salt formation in the foreground. Good rendition of the texture.
TFS. : )
A great note and an interesting image - i like the little star effect where the shore meets the water in the middle of the image.

Hi Hamid.
You have shared a very expressive shot with great perspective and POV. Its colours are amazing. Sharpness and details are very good. Thank you and my regards.
Alexei.
