[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Yesterday I had a few "surprises" waiting for me down in the spot of woods by my house and this was one of them. I say a "surprise" as last spring I didn't come across this flower.

The "Red Everlasting" is a flowering plant of the genus Helichrysum in the daisy family (Asteraceae).

It is used as a symbol for the Israeli Yom Hazikaron (Memorial Day) and is worn at ceremonies on a white shirt.It is also known as "Blood of the Maccabees". It's name comes from a legend saying that in every spot one grows, a drop of blood has been spilled on the earth. This is where it's significance in the Yom Hazikaron ceremonies comes, as sadly it reminds the people that a lot of blood was spilled to allow them to live on the land of Israel.

Hi David!

These are magnificient surprises our nature offers to us. I like the way you have presented this beautiful flower: the picture is simple, yet very pleasant, all at the image of this plant. The blurred background with the brownish colour suits the flower very well and highlights it at best.

Kind regards

Markus

Hi David,
This is a beautiful capture of a plant that we don't have here. I like this mix of colors, red and grey, always liked it :) Details and DOF used work great in good composition! TFS,
Claudine

shalom David;
I hope your Holiday weekend went well..You could be in no better place....but now that I think, that may be arguably the most important yet tense place to be at times yes? Very nice image and super notations...I know the story well...and it is very good to share it with others.....

Hi Dave,
Excellent macro of this beauty!
It shows spring is almost over, and that summer is around the corner.
Very good details against a nicely blurred background.
