This Little Tiger Blue (Tarucus balkanicus) is a small butterfly belong to the Lycaenidae family. Its distribution is from Coastal regions of North Africa, the Balkans, Middle East, Minor Asia until North India. In Israel it can be found during most of the year locally in the Coastal regions and the Jordan Vally.
The male is blue-gray and the the female in the wings center is blue-gray but most of the wing is black-grey.
The caterpillar secretes a sweet liquid that attract ants. The ants protect the caterpillar from its enemies and milk him for its sweet liquid.
Wing span: about 20 m"m.
Host plants: Ziziphus species and Paliurus spina-christi from Rhamnaceae family
