Ophrys holosericea is somewhat similar to O. bornmuellerie (see my gallery, please), but is typically larger, its labellum more spread-flat and triangular, and the petals usually darker pink. It blooms later than the former, but there is an overlap in the blooming times, and there are known natural hybrids between the two species.
The species names means “covered with fine hair” or “velvety”, as is demonstrated in the picture, taken in natural light with a hand-held Nikon D80. |
