This is a seed of the (blessed) milk thistle (Sylibum marianum) a common, spiny plant of the Mediterranean region.
Fun facts:
(1) it contains silymarin a flavonoid used to cure liver diseases and certain cancers
(2) the American President Jefferson grew it at Monticello
