Limonium narbonense, Sea lavender, is perennial plant of salty marshes, found in Israel in one region very close to the Mediterranean in the sea-spray affected area. The leaves secrete excess salt through special glands, as seen here, thus allowing the plant to thrive in very salty water. In a way it is small desalination plant.
The plant blooms from June to September producing numerous very small violet flowers on dense and large panicles (see Workshop). |
