[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Poekilocerus bufonius is a unique, poisonous desert grasshopper. It has a yellow dotted black colour that allerts other animals not to deal with it. This insect eats foliage of poisonous plants like Calotropis procera (apple of Sodom). Here you can see a mating couple on a bark of Callotropis procera.

Hallo Ori,
this shot is so beautiful, I love the colours and the perfect sharpness. Excellent job, thanks you very much.
Best regards Siggi

A startling capture from you Ori, no flowers in sight! Beautiful couple finely handled in this close up, on the other hand, that female is very busy indeed, defecating while mating...
Mehmet

I first heard a poisonous grasshopper. Color are very good. I prefer to watch it in a horizontal view.

Hi Ori,
This is a really good shot of these poisonous grasshoppers.
Certainly something I have not seen before.
You've managed the difficult exposure here very well and got great detail and colour.
The tree they are on is very interesting too.
Although it is very poisonous, they make medicine from it for leprosy and elephantiasis.
You can read about it here
Cheers & thanks for sharing.
Steve

Congratulations for this perfect shot of mating grasshoppers. Excellent light-management. Perfect presentation of this special-colored pair. Amazing how big the difference between the sexes is.
They also have a funny latin name!

Wow, unique indeed, never seen a grasshopper with coloration anything like that. Excellent sharpness again. The tree bark they're on is very unusual too, looks like rock.

John

Hallo Ori
Thanks for directing me to this one. Yes, this is indeed a lovely pair. The colours is spectacular and at some places the black even display some royal blue. Even the detail on the big black shiny eyes is super. This is really beautiful. I wonder if they are in the same case like with frogs, the brighter the colour the more poisonous they are. Thanks for sharing. Best regards
Anna
