I know, many of u will be surprise, a botanist that suddenly uploads a scorpion pic...
Well this is the story, I was guiding a botanical tour in the Negev Highlands and suddenly this scorpion appeared between my legs - about 17 cm long! This is the largest scorpion in Israel and it was the first time for me to see it. I was very much excited and told the group that the 'guide' needs 2 minutes to take a picture. Its not the best pic, but I managed to capture it. The brownish legs, darker body, thick claws and large size are good characters of this species. I was told it doesn't kill, but can really hurt.

Hi Ori, Superb action shot of this interesting and influential scorpion with excellent details. It is not surprise for me because every biologist (even all) should be know its environment. Well done my friend!
Cheers,

Bayram

Wow! That is quite the scorpion and it is HUGE!

Really good documentary view. Your instincts for that type of photography is incredible.

Btw... thanks for sending me your published text book cover graphics. You can consider me a fan of your works. Perhaps that might evolve into an actual purchase some time. LOL!!! :)

In Arizona USA our scorpions are puny little yellowish colored things able to squeeze under closed doors. I fear them. Yours would totally freak me out!

Hello Ori,
This is beautiful scorpion species, but it dosent occur in Turkiye. I saw it firstly in Jordan, near Petra and your border. your post very nice. Thanks for sharing, best wishes from Cyprus

Hi Ori,
I enjoyed the story on this, I can imagine your surprise when you saw this large scorpion between your legs :)
Great job, especially with only two minutes to spare..
I would've made them wait longer ;-}

Hi Ori

Strange flower this one. Never seen it before (chuckle).

I would thought the guide needed to take a breather (not a picture) after such a close shave of a surprise discovery? So that was a good reminder for one and all that one should always be alert and on the lookout when you're out in nature. The residents may pop up at any unsuspecting moment and it could have disastrous consequences. Well done for being alert and taking advantage of the moment to share this capture.

Best regards

Hi Ori,
I am surprised but you have presented a wonderful image here. The Scorpion looks at its best with those scary fangs out and tail curled up in an intimidating posture. Actually in your quest for exclusive plant shots you must be encountering these creatures quite regularly I feel. Very neat and sharp image with perfect light management. Excellent POV and composition. Kudos.
TFS.

Focus, sharpness and details are very good. Well captured, thank you.
Best wishes,
Achim

Hi Ori,
A surprise indeed, but a good one. You've captured this big fellow quite well, you must be excited to see it suddenly between your legs!
Mehmet

Hi Ori wonderful scorpion with amazing posture. TFS. Regards,

Hello Ori, and so you are a part time zoologist too. This is a great shot of this scorpion with very good control of the light, on this dark body. You caught him in an excellent pose with that tail up. I have never seen a scorpion so I can imagine your excitement at finding this one.

Thanks, John

Hi Ori

That's a BIG scorpion, the only ones I've seen here in Australia were about 5 cm. I'm sure you group didn't mind you taking time out.

TFS, its a cool shot of this impressive beast.

Chris

Hi,
Very nice capture, TFS.

Bonjour Ori,
Une petite infidelité à la botanique... vers l'arachnologie. Les specimens du sud de la France sont beaucoup plus petits. Celui-ci est assez effrayant mais ces espèces restent très intéressantes à observer.

Hi Ori,

A really nice image of this beast! I'm glad that you decided to stop and photograph it. I'm also glad that I don't have those around here, scorpions are one of the few things that give me the creeps, although I'd be sure to photograph one if I found it too. :-)

Thanks,
John

Hi Ori

Well done for capturing this with the added pressure of a group waiting for you! I'm not sure I would want to get this close but it is a wonderfully close and detailed shot. Excellent POV as well.
