On top of the Masada Fortress,
just 3m away from Mrs. and Mr. Grackle
i could capture this nice little mouse (and a second one)
trying to get some food from the tourists -
and thanks to Pentti i now know it´s identity.

It is an Egyptian Spiny Mouse (Acomys cahirinus dimidiatus).

thank you very much!! :-)

Hi Thorsten,

Nice to see an upload of yours again, although it is a very small animal, you captured it well with good sharpness and details, well done and TFS

Paul

Hi Thorsten,
We saw mice there, too, on the following day, but did not manage to get any photos! It is Egyptian Spiny Mouse (Acomus cahirinus dimidiatus). It has typically the fine, spine-like hairs on the back, very large ears and a long, scaly tail. The little white spot below the eye is also diagnostic, because the ssp. homericus, Southern Spiny Mouse lacks it. The Egyptian Spiny Mouse ranges in the east from southern Iran, in west to southern Algeria and Niger, in south to Tanzania and in North to Israel and Jordania. It can be found in Cyprus, too.

Hi Thor

A very cute capture!
The looks very good here in your photo - with excellent details and natural colors.
I guess he was one of the guardians of the fortress :))
Great POV and excellent contrast here - especially between his pitch black eye and pretty much everything else :)

Cheers and TFS

Hello Thorsten!
Small mammals are not very often presented on TN so at first: bravo for showing something new :) Another "plus" is the object, very cute and nice species, here well presented. I like natural POV and details. Also colours are nice for the "eye" :)
Best greetings from Poland,
Radomir

Hallo Thorsten,
Danke für dieses schöne Foto.
Gruß
Heinz
