Here is another take of the very same H. galilea specimen (see my yesterday’s post, please), showing an upper section of the plant, with buds open to a different degree (lower flowers open earlier). Note how the tongue is originally folded into a spiral, opening gradually, to full extension in the mature flower.
As I wrote yesterday, as this H. is quite different from H. affine and H. caprinum, it is suggested it deserve the status of a new species, with the suggested name: H. galilea. This is NOT an official name yet |

Hi Ishi,
Very interesting plant never seen in my region. Well chosen DOF so that longpetal of the flower is in focus. Nice color rendering. Blurry background underlines the clear details of the flowers.

nice pic. Ishi, there is a already a terrible inflation of orchid names. I suggest not to incourage it. Already one can find the same plant with a different name in every book. dash Ori
