[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Known only from Cyprus and Israel, this green Butterfly Orchid is locally common in Cyprus and very rare in Israel, known here only from Mt. Meron above 1100 m, and in the Golan Heights, around 1000 m above sea level. About 80 Platanthera species are known, mostly in Asia and North America. Not a very showy plant, and growing mostly in shaded areas, this is not an easy species to photograph. I’m still not quite happy with the pix of this season (found only a few specimens due to the dry conditions we had this spring). Will try harder next year, still avoiding the flash…

The plant can reach a height of 60 cm. The labellum is 15-20 mm long.

Hi Ishi,

As usual your photo presents good details of the flower allowing good analise of the smallest details. Good light management with well chosen DOF. Very good light rendering details in light as well as in the shadows and creating a nice depth of the image.

A superb macro capture of this beautiful orchid which is known only from my homeland and your beeautiful country. Indeed, this distribution and like some examples from herptiles which I also heve presented here (such as Acanthodactylus schreiberi) are well fitted that a landbridge was existed between your and my country! Nice natural sign indeed! TFS.

You seem to bring in a lot of flora from your part of the country.LOvely cpature here Ishi. Good details and quiet a natural habitat with life in it, and i guess it is the sunlight that is falling over it.
