| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Onopordum cynarocephalum “Artichoke Cotton-Thistle”, is the largest of our ten species of Onopordum. It blooms in late spring into early summer, from May to July, in the Mediterranean regions of Israel. It is endemic to Israel, Lebanon, and Syria. The plant may reach 2 meters in height, and bears numerous capitula (flower heads), up to 6 cm in diameter.
This rather young specimen was photographed on Mt. Meron, 1200 m above sea level, in mid May. |
