[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Crithmum maritimum (Umbelliferae), Rock Samphire or Sea Fennel, is a succulent umbilifer growing very close to the sea in many areas, including Israel. The leaves are rich in salt and in vitamin C, and are considered a pleasant addition to a green salad. In Israel it blooms from May to September.

The picture was taken just a few meters from the waves of the Mediterranean Sea in the late afternoon, just before sundown. Note the seashells and typical sandstones in the background. The umbel in the very center is in bloom; the others are still mostly in the bud. Note also the succulent leaves.
