[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
When Pied kingfisher is 'standing' in the air moving only its wings it is a great thing to see.
Fortunatly this kingfisher was above me seaking for a fish, the light was great, it was like a gift and I took it with no hesitation using my tele and tele-converter to get as much closer to it.
I like those little B/W kingfishers.

Habitat.

Varied water bodies: large rivers, estuaries, small and large lakes, coastal lagoons, sandy and rocky coasts, dams and reservoirs with either fresh or brackish water.
Requires waterside perches such as trees, fences, posts and other man made objects.

Food and Feeding

largely fish, including many species, aquatic insects, water beetles, water scorpions, crabs and cray-fish, frogs and molluscs.
Hunts by scanning from perch, bobbing head and flicking tail, and then diving down, hitting water with a splash, returning with prey carried crosswise in its bill. Also regularly hovers, before plunging down to take prey in water.

Breeding.

Aug-Sep in Turkey, Jun in Iraq, Feb-Apr in India, Mar-May in Sri Lanka, Dec-Mar in Thailand, Feb-May in SE China, Mar-May in Egypt, Aug-Apr in South Africa.
Solitary or in colonies of usually under 20 nests, male courtship feeds female during nest digging, laying and incubation.
Nest in earthen bank, over water, occasionally in flat grassy ground. 4-5 eggs, incubation 18 days. Sexually mature in ferst year.

Great shot Elroyie, i have seen these beautiful Kingfishers in Egypt and Turkey, but never this close.
Good exposure, colours and composition.
Good note also.
Well done!

Great action Elroyie.
You catch the moment with great sharpness, POV. colours and compostion. Only one thing, it's not mine. ;-)
Great work.

Elroyie, Great in-flight action with a very good pose seen in this Kingfisher! I look forward to getting shots like this..I'm planning on getting the 20D this year..From all I've read it's a great camera. TFS!

Great timing and wonderful capture. This would have been a stunning image if you had used fill flash to brighten up it's head and give a brighter catch light in it's eye. See how the sun lights up one side, but then unfortunately it leaves the otherside of the Kingfisher in the shadows...this is where the fill flash really does wonderful things is it's main intended use. Still kudos to this well focused and composed image!

What a great capture Elroyie,
Excellent detail and great timing to get this shot.
Very good notes
Thanks for posting

What a fantastic pose in flight shot! Spot on exposure despite shooting against the bright BG and 1/1000 sec freezed the action nicely. Very well done on this one Elroyie.

Simply the best Elroyie. Absolutely picture perfect in all aspects. Well done on a fantastic shot. Look forward to more.

Great post, stunning pose. Great details.
Well done.
TFS.

Hi Elroyie, This is a beautiful lady you have here, very neat capture, one I am still aspiring too. My only small nit is you should have used around f13 or smaller, but then the speed wold have suffered, so mancan not win them all. Very nice and pleasing picture

Bonne photo et belle prise de vue. Le sujet est bien arêté et le focus est parfaite. Félicitations et bonne journée.

Oh yes, I saw this one a couple of days ago but I was too tired to make any comments that day. - Great capture Elroyie. Perfectly frozen movement with just enough blur on the wings to see it. Well handled light in backlight and showing the details in the white plumage - a difficult task. Great capture, great job.

Great capture, its a pity you didn't have time to use the fill flash as Lesley suggests. Nevertheless its still a good catch and well presented.
