Scorpio maurus palmatus
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This scorpion is the desert sub species of Scorpio maurus.
Scorpio maurus can be found from North Africa to Arabia and Iran. In Israel there are two sub species, one in the north (black) and the other is in the south - desert (yellow).
This is an underground scorpion that lives in cavity holes that it digs in the ground. It has very thick forceps.
Length: 6-8 c"m
In an academic tour I pull out the scorpion from its cavity hole (and take its picture). |

Hello Oz,
Very fine capture of this desert scorpion showing great details and amazing camouflage against the desert sand. I've never come across one of these, they seem rather unpleasant! Excellent shot!
TFS and regards, Ulla
Hello Oz!
It is nice to see your new picture! This time a scorpion with a defence pose. I really like the DOF and POV of this picture.
It is also interesting for me that you showed here a rather enigmatic, diurnal species.
TFS and best greetings from Lodz,
Radomir

I've had quite a few encounters with them, and have read that the strength of the poison is inversely proportional to the scorpion's size. Is that true? By that rule of thumb, this one's must be lethal. Good photo, well captured. Just curious how you "pulled" it out though. Best wishes,
Hakan
