November brings rain to Kuwait and soon the chill sets in, December and January are pretty cold sometimes the mercury falls even to 1 C or more in the desert. All summer and autumn the wildflower seeds lie dormant in the desert sands to come alive with the first drops of rains. By late Jan-Feb the sides of the roads, empty plots and the desert are all covered in a green and yellow mantle sometimes interspersed with pink, blue, violet or white. The scrub in the desert fills with nesting birds that nest close to the ground. Coasts and marshes teem with migrating water birds. The country comes alive with colour and song. A lovely time to be there.
This particular flower was blooming close to my children's school. |
