This "wild lettuce" is edible and it tastes something like a cross between Romaine lettuce & Arugula. It does contain a milky juice. The leafy pic was taken in March, the flowers in April & the seed stage in May.

Lactuca tuberosa (Tuberous Lettuce)

Lactuca, commonly known as lettuce, is a genus of flowering plants in the daisy family Asteraceae. The genus includes about 100 species, distributed worldwide, but mainly in temperate Eurasia.

Its best-known representative is the garden lettuce (Lactuca sativa), with its many varieties. "Wild lettuce" commonly refers to the wild-growing cousins of common garden lettuce. Many species are common weeds. They are annuals or perennials. Their height can vary between 10-180 cm. They form heads or capitula in panicles of yellow, brown or purple flowers in ray florets.

The non-edible species may contain bitter elements. Others contain a milky juice.

Dear Umar
Not only is the "wild lettuce" a beautiful lilac flower, I now read in your notes it is edible too, and I am sure it will make a very appetising salad. Besides your main subject in your image the Lactuca tuberose, there are more little things that caught my attention in this collage. The fine and delicate yellow and lavender flowers, the heaped rocks and the very green grass in the 1st and large image. In the 2nd image, the thorny stem of this flower, the unopened buds in the background and off course the opened flower in all its splendour and lastly in the 3rd image the lovely white seeds of the flower after its peak stage that displays so beautifully. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.
Anna
