[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Friends, now that I have found the CD of my Riyadh images, I just can't put it away.
Today I was looking at the pictures of a male Trithemis aurora dragonfly that graced the campus of my school for a few hours on a hot summer day in 2007.
since my DSLR was new and I had hardly put it to use in a significant way, I must have done my best to capture this welcome visitor. At that time, I posted almost all the good pictures of it here.

Today I thought of doing a portrait macro of it since the picture was quite sharp in my own assessment. So I went ahead and here it is. Not in the class of Joey (the kid seems to have left us) but reasonably passable.

Here is a note I have lifted from my earlier posting of it in 2007:

Family: LIBELLULIDAE

Found in Asia: China, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hong Kong, Hainan, Indonesia, India, Japan, Lao, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, and Viet Nam.
I found it in Saudi Arabia too!

These beautiful dragonflies are seen near the ponds and small lakes close to forest areas. The body of a male is deep pink in colour. These dragonflies are very attractive and easily noticeable. The wings are transparent with light pinkish shade. The base of hind wings has a combination of yellow and brown colours.

Here is general information on the Libellulidae family:

The skimmers or perchers and their relatives form the Libellulidae, the largest dragonfly family in the world. It is sometimes considered to contain the Corduliidae as the subfamily Corduliinae and the Macromiidae as the subfamily Macromiinae. Even if these are excluded (as Silsby does), there still remains a family of over 1000 species. With nearly worldwide distribution, these are almost certainly the most often seen of all dragonflies.
The genus Libellula is mostly New World, but also boasts one of the few endangered odonates from Japan - Libellula angelina. Many of the members of this genus are brightly colored or have banded wings. The related genus Plathemis includes the whitetails. The genus Celithemis contains several brightly marked species in the southern United States. Members of the genus Sympetrum are called darters (or meadowhawks in North America), and are found throughout most of the world, except Australia. Several Southern Hemisphere species in the genera Trithemis and Zenithoptera are especially beautiful. Other common genera include Tramea and Pantala.
The libellulids have stout-bodied larvae with the lower lip or labium developed into a mask over the lower part of the face.

This is simply superb macro shot. The sharp detail on the head, eyes and body is just as good as it can get. The light and reflective eye is well shown and the color tone works well. The bokeh effect is helping to highlight this dragonfly.

What lens was used for this?

Hello Ram,
This is indeed a very close capture of the Trithemis.
It is a sharp image,but looks as though you might have applied just a little too much sharpening (or reinforcing).
I find that sometimes,if it necessary to sharpen twice,it is better to just use the 'sharpen edges' option,if you have one,to avoid any graininess or pixellation.
Super-macros are notoriously hard to pull off well,so this is still a very good image.
